Orrright I'm now down to guessing,
Tcp server traffic looks good but I must stress again udp packets from the  
server must be able to get thru to you, use wireshark or etherape to verify.

Alternatively this version of mplayer & live555 libs is old by mplayer 
standards (oct & apr 2007 respectively) this could have a bearing but I 
suspect (guess) network/firewall problems first.
