When the problem occurs, it is the monitor that displays the error message. The full message, shown in a box in the middle of the screen in text mode is: MESSAGE MODE NOT SUPPORTED H: 14.8KHZ V: 13.9HZ At this point, the keyboard is unresponsive and I assume the X driver has crashed.
