The both of you may be running your monitor close to the threshold of its limits (whether that's the designed limits, or limits that have changed as the monitor has aged). I've had that sort of thing happen, on at least a couple of monitors, when I've done that. If you can try a different screen mode for a while, and see if the problem goes away, that tends to confirm it. One solution may be to play with some xorg tweaking tools that let you *slightly* adjust the scan rates your card outputs. -- (This computer runs FC7, my others run FC4, FC5 & FC6, in case that's important to the thread.)
