I have a very convenient arrangement made possible by my (newer
technology, but not leading edge) Dell Latitude D420 laptop. The laptop
is able to boot off an external USB drive. In the BIOS options I turned
on the feature to boot from a USB drive if one is detected.

I plugged in the USB drive, carefully installed Fedora 8 to that drive
only, and all is well. It is fun showing it off to others too. When I
want to boot Windows XP, I don't plug in the USB drive. When I want to
boot Fedora 8, I plug the drive in and turn on the computer. Presto!
