It is still not working in NM-0.7, but is planned for the near future.
It never worked as you described in F6.

The latest system-config-network has a checkbox for NM control for each
interface, so it is easy to switch from a static address to
NM-controlled DHCP from there.  Using that and the profiles feature of
s-c-n might be a usable workaround.
