Hmm, I was fairly sure that it was a requirement.  Though it could have
been one of those "it's going to be awful without it" instructions,
rather than an absolutely dependency.  Quickly looking at the website,
it does list a card with 3D capability as a requirement, but not
specifically 3D acceleration.  Though some people might say one implies
the other.

Having looked at some other things that wanted accelerated 3d on a video
card that didn't have it, I'd be loath to see how Google Earth crawled
on one.


Well, I can tell you from experience, GE works (on F7) without the nvidia driver but it does indeed crawl very slowly, even on Core2 Q6600 processor ;)
