Your resolver has to be able to resolve the mail server's domain name.
If your ISP's DNS server doesn't know anything about your servers, it's
not going to be of any help.

I think it needs to answer *both* forward and reverse queries.

i.e. What's the IP for the domain name (forward)
     & what's the domain name for the same IP (reverse).
