Anyway, the smb protocol is seemingly used more as describing a Windows networking connection as Microsoft (and samba) have shifted to CIFS but for legacy purposes, some of the usage still refers to smb: protocol. For example, current Fedora no longer has mount.smbfs because it has been removed but samba-client adds mount.cifs Obviously Microsoft is the authoritative source for all information on both smb and cifs protocols Craig
