Unfortunately, both methods (the sleep one and the ipv6 ->  off one)
fail to solve the reported problem. However,

# /sbin/service ntpd restart
Shutting down ntpd:                                        [  OK  ]
ntpd: Synchronizing with time server:                      [  OK  ]
Starting ntpd:                                             [  OK  ]
