Isn't this a rather unusual way to run Fedora on the second disk?
I can understand someone doing this as an experiment,
but you talk as though it is normal,
and talk of going back to FC-6 because it does not work.

I am running Fedora on my second disk with

title Fedora (2.6.22.9-91.fc7)
        root (hd1,1)
        kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.22.9-91.fc7 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/slash
        initrd /initrd-2.6.22.9-91.fc7.img
