just to know, now that support for FC5 has gone.. is there any
unofficial repository or site for kernel updates?
There was a fedoralegacy project where interested parties were releasing
security updates for the older releases. Over time, there was a lack of
willing developers. A vote was held that determined to abandon the
effort, see: http://www.fedoralegacy.org/
Dare I suggest moving onto F7 {perhaps via F6} ?
I'm afraid of upgrading from F5 to F5+n (where n>1) using yum. I'll
probably re-install the system when F8 is out and I have 2 spare days.
You know.. it takes time and things must be done safely, and it's a
production machine.
FYI, a fedora Live Upgrade SIG has been born:
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-test-list/2007-October/msg00951.html
The idea is to make upgrades like that at least well documented if not
automatic. There is also pre-existing material on doing it at:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Tools/yum/YumUpgradeFaq
I did in fact do a production fc3>fc4>fc5>fc6 about a year ago. I did
end up needing an onsite person to do somethings on the fc3>fc4
transition, because I lost control of it.
