> Desktop background and icons are nautilus. Yes, you are correct. I eventually figured this out for myself (I'm a KDE man myself so not that familiar around gnome). Some how he had managed to remove nautilus from his system - Reinstalling it and restarting it fixed things. many thanks. Chris
