no module named yum

Hi. I'm pretty new to this thing, so any help is appreciated! I have got yum working well before, but today it suddenly failed me. I'm guessing something is wrong with yum/python.. here is the error message when I type yum on my terminal:

Could not find platform independent libraries 
Could not find platform dependent libraries 
Consider setting $PYTHONHOME to [:]
'import site' failed; use -v for traceback
There was a problem importing one of the Python modules
required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was:

   No module named yum

Please install a package which provides this module, or
verify that the module is installed correctly.

It's possible that the above module doesn't match the
current version of Python, which is:
2.5 (r25:51908, Apr 10 2007, 10:29:13) 
[GCC 4.1.2 20070403 (Red Hat 4.1.2-8)]
