So your problem has been solved, for a moment I
thought it was the following bug 
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=290681

However, I removed FC6 on that machine and I installed
Fedora 8 Test 2 and could no longer follow that one,
maybe you can add to it, if it is related or encourage
other users that have problems using 
maxima/xmaxima/Wvmaxima, etc to check that page up.
