It doesn't? I thought it did. I wouldn't have bothered to post if I didn't. 
Ah, just checked, it's gpm listed in services. My bad. I'll hazard a
half-baked guess to init 3 and from there enter gdm-restart or
gdm-safe-restart, according to what the man page sez. Luckily, I haven't
borked that up yet to try. Not sure I'd attempt it while still in level
5 though. Ric
