$ sudo rm /usr/bin/emacs
$ sudo ln -s /usr/bin/vim /usr/bin/emacs

Pressing numlock approx. twice should work around it, too. And
disabling "Assistive Technologies" in the GNOME menu is an automatic
work-around.
