Thank you. I used the DD if= of= and it worked just fine. A real
experience that worked. I should have no sim-link problems with dd. It
just got 150 byte chunks of the from and stuck it in the to.
Today I will put the copy in place of this and make sure it runs ect.

Unless you have a 10 gig partition on that 30 gig drive and that you
are doing a dd of that partition onto the new drive, I am not
convinced it will work (actually I suspect it will not work - at least
not properly). Reason being the partition boundaries on that 30 gig
drive would not work on the 10, and the # of inodes in the inode table
on a 30 gig would not work, and I'm sure other stuff would not be the
same. And dd being what it is, all those things would be part of the
bit by bit copy of the first 10 gigs on that 30 gig drive onto the 10
gig drive.
Browsing your newly created /dev/sdb5 will likely not manifest in any
problems. But trying to use it most likely will (if not now, later)
cause serious problems.

Well I am about to try. I did have to make sure the partition it was
going to is larger so it works. It will not work if it is smaller. I
proved that yesterday :-)
The new load will be on in about 20 minutes, I hope, and should work.
