Screen display problems following installation

I have installed Fedora Core 7 with Gnome desktop interface on an IBM Lenovo workstation with Pentium 4, Silicon Graphics Integrated [Sis] 661/741/760 PCI/AGP graphics card and a Viewsonic VA703b flat-panel display.

After a successful graphics-mode installation the situation is the following :

Each time the workstation boots and enters the Gnome interface,  the monitor is traversed by multiple vertical thick inverse-color blurry lines, which which contain displaced sections  of the current desktop view. I tried changing the monitor frequency and screen resolution to no avail.

Any suggestions to remedy the problem.

Thank you.
Andreas.
