I used the instructions on the fedora wiki for custom kernel development to get the source tree setup, and it worked for me: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Docs/CustomKernel?highlight=%28kernel%29%7C%28source%29 The yum-builddep command it gives was handy to get all the required dependencies installed (before yum-builddep, it was always kind of hit and miss :-).
