grub requires your bios to be able to read what it has been told to read
from /boot - If the bios is unable to read /boot that it will seem like grub
is failing. When in fact it is a combination of the bios and where /boot has been put that is the problem. You failed to present any evidence that it is truly grub that is at fault, and not your bios/'your placement of /boot' that is at fault...

OK, now for everyone, it is not the BIOS for whoever's sake. And that most obviously for the fact that it did boot several times without any issues. It is not the BIOS!
