It is a "Won't fix" issue.
Around that time frame there was another patch being proposed that was
going to get rid of the limit altogether, rather than just raising it.
I couldn't tell for sure, but I thought it looked like it was being
accepted
for 22 or 23.
That would be nice.
It would be nice if this information would be communicated to those that
submit enhancements/bug reports instead of "This change was proposed
upstream and rejected."
I am using 22 now and I will have to try it to see. I guess I could
look at the source code to see what is happening.
Regardless of how it is done, there will always be some number of path
names that will be unreasonable to expand on a command line and programs
that don't want to run into limits shouldn't assume that it will work or
can be done in a finite amount of time and ram.
