I am running kernel

2.6.18-1.2798.fc6

I thought it was a disk problem too, that is why I imaged the machine to
a new hard disk. It is a single Seagate drive Barracuda 160GB (one of
those situations where a test machine got quickly used for production,
but I am planning to move it to real server as soon as the approvals
come through) running on an ASUS P5NSLI motherboard. The original drive
was the exact same type.

sba or sda - sda is the first SCSI disk (or SATA disk) so its probably a
disk problem.

It couldn't commit journal entries to the disk and update the file
system. One of your disks went for a hike, the question is why ?

What kernel ?
