I just found this in /var/log/messages:

   Jul 13 18:25:48 mbrc35 kernel: bcm43xx_mac80211: Adding Interface type
   2 Jul 13 18:25:48 mbrc35 firmware_helper[2682]: Loading of
      /lib/firmware/bcm43xx_microcode5.fw for bcm43xx_mac80211 driver
      failed: No such file or directory
   Jul 13 18:25:48 mbrc35 kernel: bcm43xx_mac80211: Error: Microcode
      "bcm43xx_microcode5.fw" not available or load failed.
   Jul 13 18:26:47 mbrc35 NetworkManager: <WARN>
       nm_device_802_11_wireless_scan(): could not trigger wireless
      scan on device wlan0: Network is down

I'll now take a look at the link you just provided.

Mike.
