That sets the system up.  But is your terminal, also, set the same way?
If you're using gnome-terminal, there's menu options for the character
encoding.  KDE's terminal has something similar, though I don't recall
what they called it.

Using FC 4, 5, 6 & 7, plus CentOS 5.  Today, it's FC7.
