   Not quite Jeff. I am the user and it didn't work until I rebooted

You shouldn't have to reboot - just log out, and log back in. The
groups you belong to are checked when you log in, so adding you to a
group does not affect the current logged in secession. It is
possible to be logged in twice and belog to different groups in each
secession...

I believe instead of logging out you could do "newgrp uucp" if you don't want to logout and back in.
