Try swapping between virtual consoles (ALT + SHIFT + F1, etc.) when it begins to go down. I've seen that before on prior releases, *sometimes* the messages aren't appearing where you expect them to be. -- (This box runs FC5, my others run FC4 & FC6, in case that's important to the thread.)
