You are correct. I just checked this on my FC7 install. I guess the OP
would have to give details on the mobo being used, the chipset and
BIOS version. This might help.

AIUI, you have to pass the argument of something like linux=i686 when you first install. If you've already installed, there's a way to fix it but I've lost the link. It IS able to be recovered, however. FC6 has this well-known bug.
