What is the output of the command

uname -a

Specifically, does it contain the string "SMP"?
I think the earlier kernels for FC6 had smp in them. The latter ones
such as the one the OP mentioned are able to automagically detect the
smp-ness of the cpu. I use that kernel on my FC6 installation and my
X2 4400 is properly indentified. I was stumped by the OP's question
too.
