Fedora 7 Installation and DV camera reading and compressing to DVD

Hi

I didn't upgrade my PC since the initial FC6 installation from DVD, and I think I have a kernet 2.6.18 something, and everytime I try to update now, it keeps searching mirros for a kernel 2.6.19 and fail, I downloaded the needed kernel myself, and tried to install it, and it didn't work,

and I downloaded an F7 release 20th of April, and if found no device to install on, I am not sure it has to do with labelling partitions, and will be solved if I label the partitions, it just says no device found, (and definitly no previous linux installation) although FC6 boots normally and I still work fine, I only can't update or install anything like ntfs kmod or any update

I am downloading now another F7 release 27th of May, will this solve the problem, or what do I need to do to get the FC6 moving up?

I just learned about the smolt and I sent the hardware profile, but I don't know what to expect next?

Also I am trying to install Kino on my laptop, with an updated FC6 this time, and in the configure, I am getting:

checking for avc1394_vcr_record in -lavc1394... no
configure: error: Unable to link with libavc1394. Check that you have libavc1394 installed and that the version is 0.4.1 or newer

while I have libavc1394-0.5.3-1.fc6 installed

this is on:
2.6.20-1.2952.fc6 #1 SMP Wed May 16 17:59:13 EDT 2007 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Also, Can I compress the video after reading it from a DV camera to a DVD?

if not by Kino, than what programs can do this in linux?

thanks for your help,
Regards,

Manal
