If this failed, would it leave the filesystem in a readable state so that data could be pulled off. By failed I mean that it is no longer bootable. i.e. could I boot from another partition and mount the upgraded partition in read write mode? I suspect the answer is yes, and if so, this sounds like a great way to upgrade. No more messing with CDs and DVDs and images.
