Could you post the output from /sbin/lspci ? This should indicate what
pci devices you are using and may help you get a higher resolution.
Also, if you do not have a monitor display configured, you may only get
800x600 resolution as max. What did you set your display to for your
laptop? I have 1024x768 LCD listed the last time I needed to setup the
selection manually. With this installation it was detected automatically.
For comparison, here is my lspci output. The sound, Ethernet and
graphics was automatically and successfully setup. Now to help you with
the need for setup.
