Hi
I tried to used ntpd to sync time, but always got a failure error:

[root@home]# /sbin/service ntpd restart
Shutting down ntpd: [ OK ]
ntpd: Synchronizing with time server: [FAILED]
Starting ntpd: [ OK ]

how to fix this?

Some kind of firewall blocking that connection?

Keep in mind that you need to open port 123 TCP & UDP for it to work. I was having problems with time synchronization in servers in a DMZ and opening just 123 TCP didn't work.

In fact, ntp normally uses UDP port 123. The last time I looked,
it did NOT use TCP port 123 at all. Therefore, I suggest that you
should NOT open TCP port 123.
