I've never bothered with command-line burning - except once, but that's
irrelevant. As you realise, I'm sure, k3b and others are simply front-ends
for command-line tools. I was under the impression that it was necessary to
use growisofs for DVDs, but I could be wrong :-)

Cdrecord is supposed to be able to burn DVDs, and I was able to use it
for this until recently. If it was possible for me to get the desired
padding using growisofs, I'd be happy with it. There was some kind of
licensing incompatibility involving cdrecord a while back, so I believe
a fork was necessary. I don't know if the FC6 version of cdrecord is
before or after the fork, but that might be relevant.
