Printer problem -- not CUPS problem ??

Hi;

Just wondering. I am having a problem with my HP psc 1310_series
printer. This time it is NOT a CUPS or printer-config problem but a
real printer problem brought on by defective inkjet cartridges.

However, I have to go to my WindowsXP to use the HP Director program to
experiment with various configurations and default printer settings. My
question is: is there an equivalent way in Linux to play around with my
printer and printer feedback? If it were just defective inkjet
cartridges, things would be ok, but I also have the complication of a
massive paper jam which seems to have thrown off the default settings.

I can get it going again through WindowsXP and HP support, but can I do
it through Linux? Is there some printer CLI or gui that lets me
experiment or test?
