I'd use XHTML 1.1 personally. HTML is outdated. HTML4.01 has been around
for YEARS (Nearly a decade) with no signs of HTML5 being released (they
say it will, but looks very doubtful).
XHTML is more interesting to play with, is up-to-date and allows more
functionality.

Far, FAR better then HTML4.01

Hi Guys,
I can't figure out how to get this working. I got a domainname, but
don't see anything to build upon. Tried this a couple of years ago and
could build a site with Mozilla but didn't follow through with the
site name or any of that, but now I can't see any way to build the
site and I prefer not to use my IP provider's McWebsite. Can someone
point and get me on the road? Much appreciated.
Although it might be tempting to use some pretty HTML editor to spew
out your HTML, there is just no substitute for the real thing.
See http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/
That might be too dense for a beginner, so you can start with any one
of a plethora of HTML primers on the web.
Once you understand the HTML basics, install Bluefish from extras. It
won't write your HTML for you, you have to do that. Bluefish will
just help you with some mechanical details.
