I'm in that boat right now. The nvidia 3D chipset in my Dell Latitude D800 doesn't work with compiz. It should, and is listed as being supported, but it doesn't - all I get is a massively slowed down desktop as soon as compiz is enabled. A nvidia tech guy actually asked for info and I gave him everything he asked for, and then he stopped responding. I guess that means "screw you". What sucks more is that the D800 is basically busted, while an even older Toshiba Satellite (P3 800), with a GeForce2 Go, works beautifully with compiz. Go figure.
