Thanks, Dave. Mplayer plays fine my AVI file. Further information:

$ file myvideo.avi
myvideo.avi: RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 544 x 416, 29.97 fps,
video: XviD, audio: MPEG-1 Layer 3 (stereo, 48000 Hz)
$

I have meanwhile reported this problem in Livna Bugzilla:
