Out of curiousity:
Which kernel RPM is installed ? 'rpm -q kernel'
$ rpm -q kernel
kernel-2.6.9-34.EL
kernel-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL
kernel-2.6.9-42.0.2.EL
kernel-2.6.9-42.0.3.EL

What is there in '/boot' or '/initrd' ?
$ ls /boot/
System.map-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL  config-2.6.9-42.0.2.EL      vmlinuz-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL
System.map-2.6.9-34.EL      config-2.6.9-42.0.3.EL      vmlinuz-2.6.9-34.EL
System.map-2.6.9-42.0.2.EL  initrd-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL.img  vmlinuz-2.6.9-42.0.2.EL
System.map-2.6.9-42.0.3.EL  initrd-2.6.9-34.EL.img      vmlinuz-2.6.9-42.0.3.EL
config-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL      initrd-2.6.9-42.0.2.EL.img
config-2.6.9-34.EL          initrd-2.6.9-42.0.3.EL.img

$ ls /initrd/
<empty>

How many modules are available '/lib/modules' ?
$ find /lib/modules/2.6.9-42.0.3.EL/ -iname "*.ko" | wc -l
860

Can you see what modules you have loaded? '/sbin/lsmod' ?
# /sbin/lsmod
Module                  Size  Used by
<empty>
