It is possible using partitions and varying raids.

When I am forced to, I put /boot on a small raid1, and the rest on the raid5.

All that I am trying to do is to make a RAID1 set out of two identical
disks. grub doesn't like my controller, I think. There is a pending
bugzilla ( http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=234724
). The funny thing is W2k ran fine ... before I successfully clobbered
the MBR.
I have the luxury of trying out several things since this is not my
live system so I haven't given up yet. I have heard that people have
more success with LILO in these situations but I really like GRUB ...
maybe chainloading GRUB with LILO might work ... ugg.
