Peter,

There is only one MS application that I have not been able to duplicate
with the opensource software available via Fedora, and that is MS
Publisher. We had a lot of template files on Publisher so it was a
problem that could only be managed by having 3 remaining PC's continue
using Microsoft XP.

Originally I did some experimenting with RH 7 and 8 and Fedora 1 and 3.
Then I took an 'Animal Farm' approach to changing 30 other PC's that now
have versions of Fedora 4, 5, or 6 on them. ie I made slow changes with
power users and then gradually have changed the rest over a 2 year
period of time.

The software savings have been enormous, but the greatest advantage is
the ease of maintenance. There are still some complaints about not
being able to have web plug-in's work, but these things were never
needed for the business so the owner is very pleased with the increased
productivity.

Two years ago the only Unix/Linux we had was on our servers, today we
are mostly using Linux Fedora Desktops. It has been a very positive
migration for us, but you will need to manage it to make it positive.

Good Luck!!!!
