APC cable only with APC unit

You absolutely need to either make a cable that is specific for your
unit or have one that came from manufacturer for that unit.

'nut' package might be useful to you...it works with a variety of
different manufacturers brand units.

software suspend is starting to work on FC-6 but generally, when you
near the end of UPS battery, shutdown is the way to go.

I had mentioned a timer. My system can run about 10 mins On Battery.
I had thought to make the timer run about 6 mins, and then suspend
to disc.

If suspend to disc is not yet available, then shutdown is really
the only option, and I see neither need nor desirability to have
more intimate comms or knowledge of what is going on inside the
UPS, anyway, so the cable means nothing so long as I get notification
that power is out. Their software seems capable of that.

I really very much doubt that FC6 will ever be on this machine.
When I really am forced to hop from FC2 (which will likely
be soon) I do not intend to stay with Fedora Core.

Can you give me any reason why one would want to have extended
conversations with an UPS if the only real option is to shut
down anyway?
