For the betterment of the group. Just last week I had to install FC4 on a machine because the Raid controller wouldn't allow me to install FC6. (see archive for more info) I upgraded the kernel and init to the latest for FC4, removed all kernels except the most recent and then yum worked fine. System has been running for a week with no errors that I have noticed and is even running vmware for some test host machines. There are tons of documents on how to upgrade via yum, and pay attention to the requirement for FC4->FC5. Those that I found all mentioned the kernel/init upgrades as well as removing the older kernels. Only thing I changed was that i used the FC6 rpms rather than FC5. With that said, Its not recommended to do the YUM upgrade method but it does work, are least under my circumstances.
