What's the adaptor?
For what it's worth, I've had all sorts of troubles with PS/2 mice over
the years doing wild behaviour (scooting about and clicking everywhere),
but USB mice haven't done that. The worst they've done is a momentary
scoot off in one direction, occasionally.
I had one that was shockingly bad through a PS/2 extension cable, but
mostly fine when plugged in directly. It made me wonder whether the
power to the mouse was poor, so the chip inside it was acting randomly.
It uses a USB to PS/2 adapter (you know, the little green blocky
thing). This old computer only has 2 USB 1.0 ports, and I'm using them.
Actually, it seems to work fine when used on a sheet of white paper.
Thanks,
