I was looking at a problem with system-config-kickstart and decided I should
update my system first. I updated it on Jan 10th, so it wasn't too long

Anyway after the updates when the network would start it would say that my
3c59x wasn't ready.
Can you quote the exact action you took, and error message you saw ?
What is the card model exactly (not the general x) ?

This is what it looks like in /var/log/messages:
Jan 12 21:23:34 p450 kernel: 3c59x: Donald Becker and others.
www.scyld.com/network/vortex.html
Jan 12 21:23:34 p450 kernel: 0000:02:0b.0: 3Com PCI 3c590 Vortex 10Mbps at
0001b800.
Are you sure one card wasnt a 3c905(a,b,c) ?
Perhaps you were connecting to a cisco (or similar) switch that takes way to long to autonegotiate, leaving the card/switch port in 10/half mode ?

I swapped the network card for a newer 3x59x and it works now.
This is what it looks like in /var/log/messages:
Jan 12 22:30:06 p450 kernel: 3c59x: Donald Becker and others.

Jan 12 22:30:06 p450 kernel: 0000:02:0b.0: 3Com PCI 3c905B Cyclone 100baseTx
at d0854000.

And if you swap back ?
What about the dos configure tool, maybe the card has different settings ?
