Sorry- I am trying again I have not used any flavour of linux in

install went smoothly and I was up an running in a short time.
Shortly after install I was notified about 140 some-odd updates that
were availible and told the system to install them.
I am not as optomistic as the other posters. You did not tell us how
much RAM you have nor the speed of your processor but my experience with
a P3 500 MHz processor and 384 Meg of ram has not been stellar.

My experience is that FC6 is uniquely unsuited for older processors with
older cards. I have not been able to trace down exactly why this is true
but in my case , at least, it is true. So your problems in getting your
system up and running does. not surprise me.

My advice is to use an earlier version of Fedora is you want to stick
with this computer.

I agree with Aaron here. I have FC1,2,3. and 5 running on an old Gateway 500. P3 Katmai processor, with 256MB RAM. All these distros work ok on this machine, but reducing the RAM to 128MB is pushing it a bit.

I know that FC2 is no longer supported, but have had no problems installing it. It may be worth giving it a try. All updates are available, including those from Fedora Legacy, up until the time that Fedora Legacy has reached it's own end of life.

I've always been happy with FC2, and even though it's no longer supported, continue to use it every day on one of my 2 machines.

This is the URL to be added to /etc/apt/sources.list for the Fedora Legacy repo.
rpm http://download.fedoralegacy.org/apt fedora/2/i386 os updates legacy-utils

You can get FC2 from http://iso.linuxquestions.org

The Fedora Core stuff is at.

http://iso.linuxquestions.org/distro.php?distro=2

All the best.

Nigel.

Before I boosted my old test box to an enormous 256 of Ram I did successfully instill and Run Core 5, my core 6 install has been only with 256 ram although post install it has worked with 128. While FC6 works with 256 ram it is marginal and if only 128 RAM is available my guess is it would be too slow to often to be anything but a curiosity. At a guess the newest Fedora distro that is usable with 128 RAM is FC 5.
