If you are interested in an internal modem, USR still has a PCI 56K
hardware modem, model # is USR5610B it even says it supports Linux on
their page. It's more expensive (80$ compared to 20$ for a winmodem) but
it's still a bit lower than the external modems and less cables around
the computer (like we really need more).
