Yes, configuring client.conf on clients should not be necessary.

Output from 'tcpdump udp port ipp' is:
....361410 IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.ipp > 255.255.255.255.ipp: UDP, length 228
....328707 IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.ipp > 255.255.255.255.ipp: UDP, length 164
...

I've done some more tests and found that if I shutdown the firewall (I'm
using Firestarter 1.0.3) installed on clients (FC5 & FC3) they are able to
find all printers without changing client.conf. If I turn on firestarter
after print discovery finishes, the client remains with all printers and is
able to print.

The strange thing is that clients with FC6 are also running Firestarter
1.0.3 and don't have any problems.

NOTE: The above output is the same with or without Firestarter running.
