Try /sbin/swapon -s as root to see if it's really on but not being logged, e.g.: [root@golem2 ~]# /sbin/swapon -s Filename Type Size Used Priority /dev/mapper/sys_vg-swap_lv partition 4194296 112 -1 and the log entry in /var/log/dmesg should look something like: Adding 4194296k swap on /dev/sys_vg/swap_lv.
