Yes and no.

If you see the device via a new eth1 or whatever, then yes the card is supported by the kernel. However, many wireless 'g' cards need firmware to work. This firmware needs to be placed in /lib/firmware with exactness.

Some firmware files are available easily from driver CDROMs and others need extraction tools to get from the CDROM.

The information needed, as in all issues related to wireless NICs, is:

# lspci

Look for lines that look similar to:

0c:00.0 Network controller: ...

That line tells you what chipset the card is using.

Given that, a quick search of google will get you firmware options for that NIC.
