googleearth and radeon driver?

Other 3D apps I've tried seem fairly snappy, and with desktop effects
enabled, my windows wiggle weasonably well (as Elmer Fudd might say),
but googleearth seems agonizingly slow. I see these messages if I
run it from a terminal:

zooty> googleearth
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b

Mean anything to anyone?
